Q: Fire bird vs mustang vs camaro. I’m about to get my first car and my dad told me I can spend $4000 has to?
It has to be complete and nice looking. No more than a v6 though please help. Thanks!

A: I’ve had quite a few Mustangs …V8 and V6 models. The V6 was a 5 speed 1998 model and still had a very nice sound and quite a bit of horsepower as well. I put 100k miles on it without any trouble. I wouldn’t get the Firebird or a Camaro….seen way too many Camaro’s in the junkyards and most of them had fire damage.And anything with the pop-up headlights tend to fail – they get stuck either up or down. IF they get stuck up then it’s not so bad. And you can always do a little wiring job and add a toggle switch to fix it. Plus Mustangs have alot more aftermarket upgrade options.

Q: Why is there a Camaro vs Mustang rivarly?
This rivalry between Camaro fans and Mustang fans is very annoying. I don’t understand why most people feel obligated to hate on a car because of the emblem that’s on the front(and trust me, that’s all that fuels this rivalry.) Just because one person prefers fords doesnt mean they have to hate chevys and vice versa. Am I the only one who thinks both of these cars are awesome?

A: In the 1960s (when both cars were introduced) car maker rivilry meant more than it could ever mean today, if you ask me. Foreign cars weren’t a big player in America yet and cars were still very distinctive back then because being aerodynamic (which forces a certain wind-tunnel shape to everything) for fuel economy didn’t play such a big (or any?) factor yet either. The car companies themselves fueled some of the rivilry because that’s just the nature of business, or neighboring schools, or you even see it with neighboring states or countries… it’s human nature to an extent too.

But back to these cars… if you look at their histories on wiki, you can see they were actually made to compete with one another in many ways, not only in features and looks but in market audience or demographic as well. I don’t think anyone really switched sides (between Ford and Chevy) because of these models… my guess is that fans of either maker stuck with defending their own.

Personally I’m like you – I loved them both… for the same reason too – they were powerful, cute, sexy… they both had it all really. Lots of people probably loved them both, but getting them to admit that in public might be a tall order. The “side picking” never really went away.

A: The Mustang is truly a rock-solid car, the Camaros I have sat in have had extremely sharp flash molding edges on the plastic trim, and there were many squeaks/rattles driving over Michigan’s world-renowned roads. The 2010 Camaro certainly beats the 2005-2009 Mustang, but the 2010? Not a chance. It weighs nearly 700lbs more than a Mustang, yet the Mustang can still beat it at a track, despite the horsepower disadvantage.

Plus, only the Mustang is American made (Flat Rock, MI vs. Oshawa, ON, Canada)

A: Camaro.

Ever since the Camaro came out. Every year. The Camaro was more powerful, faster, had a much higher top speed, and won in comparison tests.

But the Mustang was a better seller because it came out first and was cheaper.

For example, the fastest Mustang is the new 2009 Mustang GT with 315HP which reaches 149mph ONLY. The older 2002 Camaro reached 160mph. Many Japanese V6 cars could reach 155mph with just 270HP.

Why do people consistantly compare the mustang & camaro/firebird? I am a very open-minded individual when it comes to cars and trucks. When it comes to these cars, I realize that they are in the same categoy, however when it comes to power and performance you are comparing apples to oranges. How is it possible to compare a 4.6 liter 281 cubic inch engine to a 5.7 liter 350 cubic inch corvette generation engine? Not to mention the many fiberglass body parts on the GM that under-weighs the mustang. I read an answer earlier where someone said the closest a mustang ever came to a camaro was the supercharged mustang cobra. The person then went on to say that it isn’t fair and if they were to supercharge the camaro, it would be sick. First of all, there is an 80 cubic inc defecit between the two. The reason the Cobra hung with the GM was because the supercharger made up in cubic inches that it was lacking. In that case the comparison was more apples to apples.

A: yo defintly goin for the 69 chevy Camaro i swaped to a 454 from a 350 chevy engine and it has a holly 4 barral carb. with a new air intake boost sys. and new controlls…

A: If you’re talking about V-8 cars, then NEITHER is good for a first car. Get a truck (6-cyl.). Camaros stock are usually faster from the factory but it depends on the year and model and options. I don’t advise anyone w/o a year of driving experience to buy a sports car like these. I’ve had both but my first car was a volkswagon rabbit. It allowed me to hone my skills before I moved up to a 300hp turbo Supra. I feel now that I would have killed myself in the Supra.
Also the thing about trucks is that you can fit less people in a truck and less people means less distractions. less insurance and better visibility in driving.

A: Subjective question, really. I think all mustang and camaro owners will agree: the 1965-1969 mustangs and the 1967-1969 camaros are two of the best looking generations for each model, not to mention two of the best looking cars ever made.

I am leaning towards the Camaro, but I also hear that the Mustang is better.
GM just went through that bailout and the Camaro was taken off the market for a while. Ford stayed strong and the Mustang remained all these years.

Could you please give me some reviews on both cars concerning their gas mileage, safety, and reliability?

Im 6′4″ and i want a sports car. I dont want to pay a bunch of $ to get one though. I want either a 01-04 mustang, a 01-03 camaro, a 69-70 camaro cuz it has a Heavy duty shifter and i like the shift consoles, or a 69-mid 70’s muscle car. The problem is im 6′4″ so my long legs dont fit in many cars. So people that have these cars, or are tall, or know cars please answer this ? for me. What should i get? I have 10-15grand to spend. A: I too am 6′4 and have always found camaro’s to be far more comfortable. I’d go with the 01-03 camaro since they have pretty good reliability records and lots of front seat room. They also just so happen to be the best performing vehicle out of the ones you’ve mentioned and have pretty good looks too. Seems pretty obvous to me since the 01-03 camaro gives you the best of just about everything.

Ok I have a 1998 mustang GT automatic. I am getting all this crap from people telling me that its slow, blah blah blah. Ok its not slow, but compared to other cars its slower. I dont know why ford had to be so stupid and make them so slow, then they are competing against firebird and camaro. So I am thinking about getting a camaro. I think firebirds are ugly. I like the look of the stang of that year so much better, but they are slower. If your going to give me shit about how I shouldnt need the speed dont answer. Yes I will street race occassionally but not heavily. So deal with it. How much different is insurance going to be for a mustang GT vs Camaro z28? How bout a mustang cobra. I am talking about the years 94-98 around there. No I cant go call the place cause my parents have all that stuff and they are too busy to deal with it. Yes I pay insurance for a mustang right now and its not a problem. I am 18. Dont bash on me ok. I know how to handle cars.
I dont want to put those higher gears on because I want to be able to commute on the freeway without haveing my rpms way up

I would like to have either a 2000-2003 mustang convertible for my first high school car or a 2000-2002 camaro convertible. I would like to know which engine to get for the mustang, because I would like to know which works the best,

I am a very responsible person, who has a 3.95 cum gpa and I know that this car has killed many of foolish drivers. I just want one of these cars because I love cars and know a lot about them.
Also, I was wondering which trans to take.

My budget is about $7500.

I am also wondering what aftermarket parts work well on mustangs like this.

My other option, however is that my mom will be getting rid of her 06 impala LT pretty soon and says that I can get it dirt cheap from her.
Then, should i take the money I saved and buy a crotchrocket?(ducati, aprilia, kawasaki.)

A: I would go with the Mustang. The only thing is, you’re not going to be able to find a 2000-2003 model within your budget, unless you buy one with a lot of problems. I would definatley go with the stang though! If I were you, I would try to get one of the older models. Not really old though. Look at like the late 80’s to 90’s models. The only one you need to avoid is the 95 model, it is problem prone. Also, at first you should use your money to make sure you get a good car. Worry about the aftermarket mods, once you get used to the car and everything. And if the Impala is in half decent shape, you might be able to buy it off your mom for cheap and then sell it for more, maybe make a few bucks. Use that money to mod your car instead of buying a street bike. You should probably keep the car stock until you sell the Impala (if you do*). You can probably find some cars for a reasonable price on either ebay or craigslist. But if you buy one off the internet, buy it from somewhere close to you so you can go see the car before you purchase it!

I have a 2800 lbs 86′ Mustang that’s puttingg out 270 HP, my high school “bad ass” has a 2000 Camaro Z28 that weighs 3500 lbs and puts out 305 HP. In all honesty, who do you think will win? And dont just decide by whether your a chevy or ford man. “O i like Chevys so the Camaro will win 4 sure kid”. I want an honest answer.
well to be honest the car does have straight pipes with a 600 cfm holley carb and torker intake. Also its bored 60 over. and according to the dyno it puts out 271 HP and 311 Ft Lbs. But i still think it will be pretty even and yes it is a 5.0 I ll let u guys kno the results.
we raced. I lost on take off but that torker intake kicked in at 3000 rpms and got him by about a car. p.s. this was a 1/4 mile race.

A: The best driver will win. Camaro vs Pinto. In a contest of nerve, the pinto wins with a blueprinted 5.0, unless you run the whole quarter mile. All, joking aside, the only way to decide this is in an actual fair contest. There is so much difference between the cars- power, inertia, gear ratio, tire adhesion, aerodynamics, torque and engine power curves, and whose girlfirend is the prettiest- anything goes.

I want to know the outcome when the smoke clears. Come back and tell us what happened.

I am due for a new car some time this spring/early summer. which should i get, the new camaro or mustang? My first car was a wonderful branspankin new ‘05 mustang hot off the press back in march of 2005. i absolutley fell in love with it, but i did manage to find many of it’s flaws. perhaps because it was new the market and a convertable to add on the undeniable chances of ‘lemon’ issues that did show up. but when it was good n’ runnin it was wonderful. The new camaro just excites me to hell and back…. though i am not sure about buying another new car the first year around the block. I will not be happy if i run into the same problems as i did with the mustang, that was a great upset which let to the car only being owned for a measly two years. the car i have now i love, but i do not own this one and it is getting traided in by its owner

A: MUSTANG. Until the Mustang began selling as well as it did, GM and Chrysler had no plans to restart the muscle car war. Now that they see how well the Mustang is doing, They both wanna get in on the act. The Mustang was the first 43 years ago and it’s the best and the first again……..Go Mustang

My friend has a 3rd gen mustang with a 302, edelbrock dual plane manifold, edelbrock 650cfm carb, headers and a 5 speed manual (t5?). I have a 1991 camaro RS with flowtech headers, y-pipe, no catalytic converter, flowtech cat-back (all 2.5″ exhaust), freshly rebuilt 700r4 auto with a b&m stage 2 shift kit, 305TBI, and 3:42 gears. Which would win a race, say starting at 40mph and a race staring from a stop? Not sure what gears the mustang has, but i know it came with a 5.0 (302).

A: It’s too hard to say with that information. It sounds like the Mustang is built but I don’t know if it has a custom cam or heads. Those Fox-body Mustangs are light cars. I’d probably put my money on the Mustang because it sounds like it has a built motor, and your Camaro is basically a stock 305 with an exhaust upgrade. Don’t mean to down talk your car because it sounds like a cool car, but that Fox-body sounds like more of a race machine.
