Q: honda civic vs. honda fit?
Which is better, a new honda civic or a new honda fit? and I am willing to get the honda fit sport so I can have the remote entry. I know that the honda fit sport is about the same price as the honda civic and the honda fit is cheaper than the honda civic. please tell me your reasons why.

thank you soo much!!

A: Civic: mellower suspension, quieter interior, lower seating position, nicer drive for long distances, better interior until 2009, more pleasant passenger compartment (not more room, just more pleasant to ride for long periods)

Fit: sportier suspension (even in the standard model), taller seating position, funner for short jaunts, a bit fatiguing on longer drives, better interior as of 2009, way more cargo room

Q: Honda Civic vs. Honda Fit?
This summer I’m going to buy a new car. My criteria are: good gas mileage, reliable, and because I’m a poor college student, affordable.
Initially, I was going to replace my Ford Focus with a new one. After doing some research, I found that overall it seemed that the Honda Civic was a better car. After looking at Civics, I stumbled across the Honda Fit.
I like the fact that the Honda Civic has more space. Although it has less gas mileage highway (33, to the Civic’s 36), it has more mpg city (27, to the Civic’s 25).
I don’t like the small gas tank on the Fit, but I think I could get over it.
My question is, which do you think is better and why?

Also, if anyone has any input on a car other than these two that fit my criteria listed above, by all means give me your suggestions!

A: I was looking at both the Fit and the Civic. I was able to rent a Civic for a long trip. After the trip, I chose the Fit…

Reasons:
I like the Hatchback and lay flat seats…
The Parking Brake Handle on Civic was in STUPID place. It dug into my leg… <---this drove me nuts...!!!
The Fit feels roomier…
The Fit Sport was less expensive than the Civic…

I’m averaging 34 mpg in city driving with my Fit with a 5 speed Manual…

If you do go with the Fit, I suggest the Sport with a the the 5 Speed manual…

Q: Evo 8 vs Civic si vs Subaru WRX STI which ones is the best?
Okay to make things easier on the question an Evo 8, A new Civic si, and a Subaru Impreza WRX STI ‘05, the prices range for the Evo 8 (stock) and the Subaru (stock) are from 23K – 25k and the Civic Si 07 (stock) is around 21k – 22k.

My questions are:
Which one would you buy and why.
Which one is easier to fit with aftermarket parts.
Which one, in your opinion, would win a race if they were pinned against each other.
Last question is between the Evo 8 and the Subaru, which one would you choose? (Neglect Price)
Lol my bad. Ok if the Civic, Evo, and the WRX were fully tuned.

A: Well first off like the guy before me said. Your comparing apples and oranges here but im not gonna be anal so here it is. If u want the car for the performance go for the evo because specific bolt ons for the evo can raise the HP by like 5-10 and thats quite a lot. But if u want to go luxury wise and what not go for the STI because its a good all round car but it doesnt pack as much oooomph as the evo. As for the civic itll work really well as long as u buy the right one because the stock 07 civic SI comes with a k20 engine that is 200 hp with 144 tq and it responds really well to bolt ons meaning that u can add so intake, exhaust and header mods and lighten the car chassis enough by taking things out like ur AC and the interior equipment and it will be as fast as the evo and STI but it depends if ur willing to go that extra mile to do all that to the civic but anyways my choice would be the evo because u get more power out of the box and it can kick some serious ass. and if u dont think the evos 300 hp is enough go get a turbo and boost the crap out of it. Well thats my opinion but u can do whatever u want to whichever car that ur thinking of buying.

HEY KID BELOW ME> IT DOESNT SEEM LIKE U KNOW A LOT ABOUT HONDA’S HP RATING AND POWER TO WEIGHT RATIOS BUDDY SO DONT TALK IF U DONT KNOW

Q: Mazda3 HB vs. Toyota Matrix vs. Honda Civic?
I’m in the market for a new car – my 01 Honda Civic was totaled a few weeks ago. Loved it for 8.5 years. Just test drove the new Civic, the Toyota Matrix, the Honda Fit and the Mazda3 hatchback. I’m torn between the reliability and fuel economy of the civic and/or the toyota vs. the great handling and feel of the Mazda – seems like a great value, but I’m not as familiar with the brand. I found the Fit to be cute but uncomfortable. The Civic was super comfy but a little boring-executive sedan-y :) The Toyota felt good, albeit a bit plastic. Loved the Mazda – felt like a much more expensive car.

I don’t have a huge commute to work and school and I live in LA. I do drive cross-town once or twice a week. Hoping to buy not much over $20K. I’m a little worried about the cost of maintenance. Any advice as to how to make my decision?

A: get a Pontiac Vibe it’s the mechanical twin of the matrix but sells for a lot less

Q: Hona Civic vs any Mini Van?
Is there a real difference in length? One of these days, one the Civic is paid off, we may get a van.(and actually we may do it before the Honda is paid off IF I get a nanny job for twin girls and IF we can’t safely fit 3 car seats in the Honda or work something else out…)

ANYWAY my question is this: Is there a real difference in length between a Honda Civic (2001) and a Mini Van? I am into small cars…feel more comfortable driving small cars…and worry about driving anything too large. Any help or advice would be appriciated.
Also… are there ANY 4 Wheel Drive Mini Vans? My next cars needs to be 4 Wheel Drive
I am 5 ft 0 in so what is why I am into small cars, I feel I’ve got better control when I drive a car that fits me
we wont want brand new, but thanks! I will look into that van.
I like the Fit..I think it is a bit new for us though…but it looks like an AWESOME car

A: try getting a honda fit….mini-vans are often ugly and consumes more gas than sedans

honda fit gets great mileage and it’s a 4 door suv/van/sedan mix

Q: 1996 honda civic 2dr vs 4dr?
i have a 1996 honda civic ex and i want to out chrome power mirrors on and i cant find them for 2dr only for 4dr. and i wanted to know if the 4dr mirrors would fit a 2dr? thank you~!
remember im goin from a 4dr to a 2dr.

A: As long as you originally have power mirrors, if you are switching to another set of power mirrors from any civic 96 to 99, it will fit.

Q: Honda Civic vs. Nissan Altima?
I’m looking to lease a used smaller car that’s still reliable, safe, with good gas mileage, but with a good price that won’t break the bank. The two that I’m favoring right now are the civic and the altima. So the question is which one fits the description of what I need better? I’m looking for answers from people who have actually owned one of these cars, or have a vast experience with them. But if you have other suggestions I’m willing to hear that too.
Thanks!

A: if i had to choose between the two of them the Nissan altima would be the one i would take, they are more reliable than the Honda is,honda,s are good cars but they wont out last a Nissan if taken god care of,Nissan’s are building one of the best cars on the road right now,and they are out lasting a lot of the others on mileage, and maintenance, the altima will also get better mileage than the Honda will, and is cheaper to maintain.you can drive both off them and make your own mind up on them ,good luck on it.

Q: Honda Fit vs. Mazda 5; what do you think?
So here’s a little decision for anyone interested in tackling it. I’m buying a new car, because my 1994 Civic is costing me money and just doesn’t cut it for camping trips. I’m currently a film student and am about 3 months from graduation, so the buying timeframe would be 3-10 months from now.

There are two vehicles I’m interested in; the Mazda5 and the Honda Fit (2009).

With the previous model fit, the decision was easy, as I prefer the 5 over the older Fit, but looking at the new model it’s made my decision a lot harder…

So, I’m single and live in the city on a somewhat limited budget (not starving, but money isn’t falling out of my ass) However I also make fairly lengthy trips to see my parents 14 hours away on a regular basis, I like going camping as often as I can and hopefully next year I will also have a surfboard to cart around. This and the fact that my career will involve the occasional transport of people and/or gear, makes the Mazda5 very appealing- especially since I like minivans and can’t afford a V6 engine. I the performance is a nice step up, as I found the Fit to be juuust a bit laggy on acceleration.

My mom already has a Fit and I’ve been very impressed when I’ve driven it, and now that all of the little annoyances have been fixed, the fact that I can save roughly $6,000 and 10 more MPG then the 5 is making me think more toward that…

So here are the models:
2009 Mazda 5 GT Automatic Trans in Pearl White: $26,130.00 CDN
2009 Honda Fit Sport Automatic Trans in Taffeta White: $21,000.00 CDN(ish)

Just to be clear, I do like the look of the Mazda 5 a little more, but the appearance will in the end have little to do with the choice

Any Suggestions?
Thanks!!

A: Go with the Honda Fit, It will give you better resale and trade in value.

Q: which cars has zip Mazda3 vs honda fit?
Yes i know these are two totally different cars in 2 different classes.
But i have my eye on one of these two for my next car. The fit is all new and the mazda3 replacement looks good as well.My question is which car has the biggest fun factor.I loved my old 1991 civic hatchback it was a blast to drive and i am looking for the same great handling. which has a great shifting manual transmission and great acceleration.Very few cars have that wow factor anymore, most are geared for families who want a quiet and soft ride.I drove my friends 2001 civic coupe and was extremely dissapointted, i have no experience with the new civic though. The mini also falls into the fun to drive category but i want a car which can hold at least 4 passengers comfortably.Any comments from owners of these cars are welcome

A: both cars have been said to be have entertaining handling (not something said for the 2001 civic) by journalists. Im gonna assume you are talking about the first gen fit sport (up to 08), which has been known to be very fun to drive. i believe, considering u loved ur 91 civic, that you will like the fit better. while the mazda is faster and probably has more grip, the fit sport handles so well because of its lightweight, the same lightweight that made ur 91 civic so fun. If your looking to replicate ur 91 civic in a newer car the fit sport (make sure its the sport!) would be ur best bet. however i would drive both cars (most dealers should let you even if you are young as they are cheaper cars) before i made my final choice. good luck!

Q: 4-cylinder vs V6 Honda Civic?
I’m 16 and I have a 2005 Honda Civic sedan. It’s gotta 4-cylinder but I’m not too sure on exactly what specs it has. I was wondering if it is worth going with the 4-cyl and bombing it up a little or see if i can get a V6 in there and doing that up (was told i could maybe fit a V6 in there? dunno). w/e give us ur opinion! thnx

A: dont put a v6!. plenty of other engine swaps that are high horse power and four cylinder.
turbo a built 4 cylinder for power.

Q: 1999-2000 Civic Si vs 1994-2001 Integra GS-R?
I’m looking into getting a newer car pretty soon, and have narrowed my options to these two.

There seems to be a general prejudice to Civics but less of a prejudice towards Integras. Why? During these model years the specs and performance seems nearly identical. I would tend to lean more towards the Civic just because I think it looks a little better (in my humble opinion). But which one would be a better car?

The main things I’m looking for in a car:
1. Stick shift.
2. Decently quick (apparently I can’t call these cars fast, haha).
3. Good gas mileage (a big consideration).
4. Reliable.
5. Inexpensive price and upkeep.
6. Decent size for carrying extra people if I need to.

Now guys, I’m not planning on modding anything, and I’m not looking for a race car (but compared to my ‘92 civic DX these will be CRAZY fast, haha). Also, would I have a problem fitting into an Integra since I’m 6′3”?

Integra GS-Rs do seem generally cheaper than the Civic Si though, so that could be a big factor. Out of curiosity, how many miles would a car have before I would worry about reliability? Would 130,000 still be a viable option? And what year Integra would be the best due to Insurance and features.

A: In my opinion I would say the GSR. Here’s a couple reasons why. The B16a2 which is what the 99-00 SI has really have tranny problems. The synchros go out on them. I have had 2 99-00 B16 trannys and they both went out on me. I called around and the shops have repeatedly have had people calling on these trannys. I bought a GSR trans, and it was the best tranny i’ve ever had. As far as the height, I am 6′1 and I think I fit better in the integra then the civic. I think its cause the seats sit high in the EM1 for some reason. As for insurance The older you get for the car then generally the insurance goes down. So I guess in my opinion I would have to say GSR hands down for reliability, looks and over all fan base.

Good luck with your decision and hopefully this is a little more informative.

Q: Toyota Corolla vs Camry?
Looking to buy a reliable car that I can drive for a while through college. Looking to buy a car with about 120k miles… trying to find the difference in reliability between the corolla vs camry and some differences? Also, where does a Honda Civic fit in this picture?

A: There is no difference in reliability between the Camry and the Corolla.

The Camry is a midsized car and is larger, roomier, and tends to have more options.

The Corolla is smaller and is considered a Compact. It will get a little better Gas Mileage because it’s smaller. But will have less options.

The Civic and the Corolla are both Compacts and compete for the same market.

Q: Question about buying old car vs new car?
I live in AL and am out here for school. My husband is stationed in Hawaii, and will be deploying. We have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 Hatchback about 27K miles, and owe about $7500 left on it. It would cost $1K to ship to CA, or approx. $2K to ship to east coast I believe. We are thinking of just selling it right before he lives the island. KBB is around$11K, but it probably won’t sell that good in Hawaii. I need my own car(been using parent’s car for class so far) by this month. If I am able to keep a new Honda civic or fit for 10-15 years, would it be worth all the expense of buying new instead of an old car that I can manage for 3-5 years?I’d be out 1.5 years in AL total, then the car would sit for 6 months or so before he ETS, so we’d might need to ship a vehicle at some point anyway. When he deploys, he plans to pay off the honda fairly quickly, after a few other bills. What do you recommend…new car($17-20K)if can keep 10-15 years or old car($2500-4000) for 3-5 years?thanks.

A: I was once told, by a very shrewd man, that best way to get value for the money is to buy a 2-year old car, and trade it in every 18-24 months.
The instant you take possession of a new car, it’s value has depreciated by $5000- even after rebates. By year two, the biggest chunk of depreciation has happened- that is, the car should retain most of its value for the next 18 to 24 months.
When you trade in and buy from a dealer, you’re actually financing the difference in value between the old car and the newer one, so if there is little difference in value, you don’t have to finance so much.
NEVER feel pressured to close a deal; if you feel the slightest pressure, if you are the least bit uncomfortable, walk away. There is very likely another car dealer within a mile, or less…
If you follow this philosophy, you’ll always have a car that’s less than 4 years old, and you’ll be financing the minimum amount; on the other hand, you’ll always have car payments, and you’ll always have to carry expensive collision and comprehensive insurance.
I’ll never again buy a new car. Even if I keep a car for 20 years, I don’t like the initial deprecation.
Buying a 2 year old car and keeping it 10 or more years might make sense, that way you spread the depreciation over a decade (you have to assume zero, or minimal value after 10 years). Toward the end of the 10 years, repairs will become necessary more often, and will become more expensive.
Finally, the approach I use for my “beater” car- I find a 15-20 year old car that doesn’t need much in the way of obvious repairs, drive it 2-4 years, find another one. At that age, and in that condition, when a part fails I have to decide if I really need it; thus I end up with a daily driver that has only 2 or 3 wheel covers, perhaps a smashed window covered with clear plastic, rusty of course, seats usually covered with horse blankets… but I get rid of them if they begin to smoke, and I make sure the brakes are in good shape.
When the beater has gasped its last, or repairs to keep it running exceed the price of another one, I usually Freecycle it and move to the next one.
Those are my 3 recommendations- buy 2 year old car, trade it every 18-24 months, buy 2 year old car, drive it 10 or more years, buy $500 car and drive it until it’s too expensive to fix (engine or trans problem, usually).
I would steer clear of any used car in the sub- $8,000 range, or the over 2-week-paycheck range, because banks usually won’t finance them for less than $8,000.
Banks already have enough money. I don’t give them a nickel more than I absolutely have to.

Q: what is your opinion on Mazda’s maintenance and reputation vs. other brands?
Choices was: 2010 Mazda 3, 2009 Honda Civic/ Fit, Toyota Matrix

I jst bought the new Mazda 3 and i really like the handling, the style and the price! But one thing that crossed my mind which is “WHY IS MAZDA NOT THAT POPULAR?” it is a great car and all! I did a pretty good research before buying it and Mazda 3 specs are better than Toyotas and Hondas offers and Mazda has a really great price! BUT one thing i forgot to check is that maintenance and all that long term stuff! i asked around and they said that to put it simply MAZDA SUCKS… they said that the best cars are toyotas and hondas because of great maintenance and all that! but i also thought about the two other car brands before purchasing, i thought that toyota was overpriced even though the specs are not that great, their price are sometimes higher than that of Honda who offers a lil better specs. Honda on the other hand, as i heard is that it is a great car but others say that Honda has higher possibility of being stolen even some pple i know complain about their insurance coz of this! so can you give me your opinions on this? i already like the specs my Mazda has so i dnt care if you want to comment on this but i want to know how bad is the maintenance, and all that stuff compared to toyota and honda? also consider insurance, reputation, flaws, life span, etc. how much will it cost me?

and lastly, what would u prefer new 2009 Honda civic/ fit, 2009 toyota matrix, 2010 Mazda 3- considering the specs and the long term effects? and why?
also consider resale value coz i kept hearing different opinions but even the edmunds agreed that Mazda has a good resale value

ohh and i saw this one review about mazda 2006 and 2 pple really experinced horribly with Mazda 3 but one of them said that the 2007 model is a lot better accroding to pple she knew, is it possible that year- make made a difference?

A: Better than most

Q: Tire/rim incompatibility from Grand Am to Civic??
I have 4 tires from my old Grand Am that are 195-65-15’s. They were expensive tires and have roughly 10K out of 85K on them so I want to put them on my Civic for winter tires. Here’s the catch: The current tires on my Civic are 195-60-15’s a difference of 5 on the sidewall. My plan is to buy new rims (what kind should I buy?) and by rims I mean the center part, not the fancy hubcap covers or alloys, and put the Grand Am’s tires onto the Civic. Or would the Grand Am tires fit on the Civic’s rims with such a minor difference? (I’d probably be better off purchasing new rims vs. having the tires taken on and off the Civic’s rims) Any compatible issues that I may face or is it easier than I’m making it. Thanks in advance.
Rick, thanks for the prompt response. I think you meant the new tires will fit on “the rims.” ..I think. I had heard rumors about the tire change affecting my speedometer and odometer. Thanks! You saved me some $!

A: The tires will fit on the wheels, so you really don’t need new ones. The different tire size will affect your speedometer readings. The speedometer will be reading 3,2% too low. When it says 60, you’ll actually be going 61.9mph.

The new tires have a diameter of 25″. The old tires are 24.2″.

I don’t know if that slight difference will cause any rubbing issues. But you will have to re-align the car once the new tires are on.
